The Sketchley Hill Menphys nursery was packed by pupils, past pupils, parents and staff who wanted to say thank you and farewell to teacher Moira Brooks.
Moira can claim that she was there from Day One – when the nursery opened in September 1992 and two of the pupils present on that first day, twins Chris and James, were there on July 12 2011 to wish Moira a happy retirement.
Her 19 years at Menphys ends 41 years in education for Moira, who started in Glasgow and then worked at the recently-closed Hinckley Family Centre.
Asked about her Menphys years, Moira said: “There have been so many successes. I love to see children continue to make progress after they have left us. It’s lovely to go out on a high, with the outstanding Ofsted report. I feel really very privileged to have been part of that achievement.”
Head Helen Johnston, also at the nursery since September 1992, praised Moira for being instrumental in the nursery getting its outstanding Ofsted report. The nursery was rated as outstanding in all 17 categories by the inspectors who visited in February 2011. Helen welcomed Moira’s children Mark and Sarah.

“Thank you all ever so much for the wonderful memories I will take away,” said Moira, who intends to spend more time travelling – an ambition reflected in the many gifts she was given.
